Holding Aloft The World
Burden of the earth held aloft by a gentle tree, see
Decades upon decades sheltering an ecosystem
Varied denizens that perch, burrow, crawl, swing
in its warm embrace, their generations ‘ve thrived.
Immobile giant, its canopy of leafy branches sway,
in gentle breezes, violent storms and withstood all.
Throwing long shades, cool respite in fiery sunlight
Towering above human reach, safe from mischief.
Still with chainsaws, skylifts, tractors they ravaged
Felling the gentle giants, wiping out whole habitats.
Manic housing developers, mega oil palm planters
Demoniac hordes of Malaysia, Asia - the tree killers.
